Learn how to make a traditional Dorset sheep hurdle using hazel coppiced from boundary brook.
Begin by coppicing suitable hazel, cutting to length and cleaving in half. Learn to select suitable uprights and weave hazel, binding top and bottom to make a durable and mobile hurdle screen. You can learn the traditional skill of “riving” hazel rods in half down their length as a way of doubling your weaving material.
Experience using a bill hook and coppicing is welcome but not essential. Tools are provided, bring your own bill hook if you have one, work gloves and suitable outdoor clothing. Tea and coffee provided. We hope to see you in the woods!
Let us know if you would like any further information, book by email.
NB Hazel hurdle weaving course is full, a few spaces for Coppicing left.
